HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC — June 24, 2024 — The Hospital Auxiliary (HHHA), a nonprofit dedicated to assisting patients in need in Hilton Head, Bluffton and the surrounding areas, has been awarded a $30,000 grant from Power:Ed, the philanthropy of SC Student Loan Corporation.

This gift marks the third year of funding from Power:Ed to support 10 nursing scholarships at USCB and TCL to help create a local talent pipeline to address the healthcare workforce shortage.

“We are very grateful and excited that Power:Ed has selected the Auxiliary for a grant this year. It allows us to continue rewarding first generation nursing program students who might otherwise not be able to afford to continue their advanced education in clinical healthcare,” said Auxiliary President Mike Rosenfeld.

“Power:Ed is proud to continue our support of this important workforce development program, which has such a positive impact on the community,” said Power:Ed Executive Director Claire Gibbons. “We hope these scholarships are a pathway to success in school, their chosen healthcare careers, and in life for these students.”

Power:Ed has awarded $1,000,000 in grants to South Carolina education and career readiness organizations in FY2023-24. In this fourth fiscal quarter, Power:Ed awarded five grants (including this grant to HHHA) totaling $208,000. Grants are administered quarterly, and the next grant funding deadline is July 1, 2024.

About The Hospital Auxiliary
The Hospital Auxiliary’s vision is to assist Hilton Head Regional Healthcare, now part of Novant Health, in improving healthcare quality, access, and delivery throughout the region. The Auxiliary renders assistance and comfort to the patients of Hilton Head Hospital and Coastal Carolina Hospital and their families through an in-service volunteer program. The Auxiliary has no paid staff – 100% of our work is done with volunteers. Our efforts also enrich the quality of health and healthcare related education of the residents of Hilton Head Island, Bluffton, and surrounding areas. In 2024, the Auxiliary will celebrate its 50th year of support for Hilton Head Regional Healthcare and it continues to expand its programs and its positive impact on families in the area.
